Making the Most of Our Compost

Here at Grim, a huge aspect of our mission is to be as friendly to our Earth as possible, while providing you the greatest experience we can. The best of both worlds! In order to do this, we've made it a goal of ours to be as waste free as possible. A major part of making this possible is through (drum-roll please)... COMPOSTING! All of our products are 100% compostable including our cups, and grounds. (May I add that all of our merch is up-cycled as well?) We want to make an effort to not only decrease waste, but to also do our part in giving back to our planet (It does so much for us!).

So... what is compost?

Composting is the natural decomposition of organic materials such as fruits, vegetables, paper, etc. After decaying in an environment over time (it typically takes about 90 days), the compost then transforms into a natural source of rich nutrients for soil. Gardens can thrive with the addition of compost!

So... why compost? Composting is one of the most effective and sustaining environmentally-friendly measures we can take. There are so many incredible benefits to behold through adapting this lifestyle. First off, it reduces landfill waste. Yard and food scraps make up 25-50% of what we throw away. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) estimates that one fourth of waste in our landfills could have been composted (that's a huge percent!). Composting not only removes content from our landfills but utilizes that content and turns it into something great. Another benefit of composting is that it helps to reduce greenhouse gasses. One of the biggest contributors of greenhouse gases is within our landfills. If we made the change and composted the organic portion of our waste, we could drastically reduce those emissions. Our air quality would increase tremendously! Lastly, a topic near and dear to our hearts, composting can significantly reduce your carbon footprint. We can all make a HUGE impact without having huge carbon footprints. You can adapt this into your own lives in many ways (start a composting bin with all of your scraps... you'll make a bunch of worms very happy) such as supporting local businesses who are environmentally conscious.

These are just a few of the benefits of composting. At Grim, we are all about "living while you still can", so let's make the most of this life by being conscious of our decisions and helping to make our planet the best it can be.

Stay tuned for more.
